014.

the next british election isn't for year-and-abit yet ( i miss out on voting in it by like two months :( ), but with all the american election coverage, i figured i might as well do a little post about politics - particularly as it's listed in my 'about me'.

i won't bore you, though, i'll just put up this little quote i found today when cleaning out my drawers.

"once we were hopeful. we believed the system could correct itself: the benefits of capitalist growth would trickle down to the poor; the welfare state would work its magic. who believes that today? as the briefing shows, for all labour's herculean efforts to tackle the problem, the extra welfare billions have barely scratched the surface. as for tickle-down, one in ten british families will be millionaires within a decade(according to the economist intelligence unit), but no one sees that as hopeful news for the underclass. worse still, the poor have lost faith in the system, too. barely 50% of socuial grades D (semi and unskilled manual workers) and E (those entirely dependent on state benefits) voted in the last election, compared with 70% of the middle class. politically, the poor have disappeared. the horrors of knife crime, binge drinking or a drive through their neighbourhoods bring them momentarily to our attention.
then they fade into statistics."

i support labour - always have, probably always will.

british or american, which side of the political spectrum do you lean towards?

I don't think I have ever paid that much attention to British politics. It all seems to go in one ear and out the other. I was far more aware of what was going on in the USA election, than what's going on in our society.

(is that awful?!)
